<13> This paper showed for the first time that a simple control policy can achieve significant energy savings in a service center without jeopardising its performance. The work was followed up by C. Schwarz et al at the University of Wurzburg and a real-life implementation was evaluated by M. Mazzucco at the University of Estonia. The paper was among a small number of selections from the 2010 Madrid Queueing Theory conference that were published in the Annals of Operations Research. It led to an invited workshop presentation at Imperial College (ICEP 2012).
