Additional information
Portable oxygen generators are extremely important for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients. The paper describes a novel, energy efficient hollow fibre device as a low pressure drop structure for the production of oxygen-enriched air. This work arose from Bath patents and a Royal Society Brian Mercer Innovation Award. This paper has demonstrated that the novel fibre configurations give rise to very rapid PSA cycles, which can be used to enhance process efficiency, leading to the world’s fastest PSA, compact oxygen unit. The publication also led to the award of a PhD studentship from Ultra Electronics for oxygen research.
