Additional information

Being able to engineer and control the electronic properties of organic semiconductors will allow them to be tailored for new devices. This paper was the first to demonstrate that using a thin interfacial layer of polar material between the organic and top magnetic layer, it is possible to control the spin polarisation of extracted charge carriers from an organic semiconductor. This breakthrough opens up new organic spintronic devices, including spin filters and switches for quantum computation (DOI:10.1038/nmat2933). The work has led to two proof-of-concept grants being awarded.
