Additional information

This article demonstrated that it was possible to convert graphene into a hydrocarbon by hydrogenation in a plasma. That the hydrogenation had succeded was demonstrated by Raman scattering measurements performed in Halsall's Group . This article was selected by Science magazine as part of the pioneering work that lead to the award of the prize to AG and KN in 2010 (http://www.sciencemag.org/site/feature/data/hottopics/nobel2010/). It thus also formed part of the background to the award of £23M to Manchester for the new graphene institute and the 54M euro (initial) FET flagship program of the ERC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-21760727 and http://www.graphene-flagship.eu/GFfiles/130124_PresseText_A4.pdf
