Additional information

The paper presents unique insights into the early vision system of flies based on the most comprehensive and accurate stochastic biophysical model of a Drosophila photoreceptor, available to date. The importance and impact of these findings in the field were highlighted by a brief note published in the Dispatch section of the same issue (http://www.cell.com/current-biology/abstract/S0960-9822(12)00792-0?script=true). A preliminary version of the biophysical model formed the basis for the successful BBSRC grant application led by Coca: 'Reverse-engineering Drosophila's retinal networks' (http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/pa/grants/AwardDetails.aspx?FundingReference=BB/H013849/1; £532K).
