Additional information

First report of extensive fluorescence enhancement by a self-assembling Au colloid array. It is also the first to separate the effect of increased excitation rate from the effect of higher quantum yield experimentally, which has not been previously investigated. This discovery has been cited by leading groups such as Lakowicz and Pompa.Invited talk by Xie at the International Conference on Cellular and Molecular Biology(ICCMB2007). This work has also led to the Macquarie University Postgraduate Innovation Award to Xie and was the basis of Xie’s Imperial College Junior Research Fellowship award.
