Renaissance letters and learning: In memoriam Giovanni Aquilecchia.
Knox single-authored the chapter ‘Copernicus and Pliny the Elder’s Cosmology’ (pp. 111-148); co-authored the ‘Introduction’ with A. L. Lepschy (pp. 1-5); edited on his own, with the help of the Warburg Institute’s copy-editor, all contributions; agreed the texts of other authors; compiled the index; and saw the volume through the press. The co-editor N. Ordine provided a subvention through the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici (Naples), which provided some of the funding for the publication of the volume (as for the conference on which it is based). Prof. Charles Burnett, Warburg Institute, has agreed to confirm this if requested.
Knox's chapter (37 pages, 22,000 words) required extensive consultation of early printed books, including copies with unique manuscript annotations, in various libraries, including Uppsala. The argument and conclusion is original.
