Murderesses in German Writing, 1720-1860: Heroines of Horror
Kord’s Murderesses in German Writing draws extensively on difficult-to-obtain archival sources and published texts spanning several disciplines—legal, psychological, philosophical, anthropological, sociological, and literary writings—and different text types, from poetry, ballads, novels, and biographies to court records, journal articles, and legal reform texts. The result of 9 years’ archival research, the value of the study lies in its decoding of taxonomies not only of female criminality, but also of female ‘normality’, for which only a broad and interdisciplinary textual basis could serve as convincing evidence. Neither the breadth nor depth of this study could be achieved in article form.
