Additional information

This paper presents a fundamental investigation of material removal behaviour in grinding. It was the first demonstration of the effects of grit shape on material removal with real physical evidence. It was found that a single cutting edge is more effective for cutting compared to multiple cutting edges on a grit. Such evidence provides critical insights into grinding mechanics for improving efficiency and quality. The work attracted great interest from Saint GoBain and Rutgers University, USA. Chen was invited to present the work and further developments in the Saint-Gobain Grinding Research Symposium at Saint-Gobain NRDC, USA, Nov. 2012.
