Significance of output:

This paper is part of a research that was awarded the “Bristol 2013 Vice-Chancellor’s Impact Award” for “outstanding innovation in creating economic and social impact”. The method was adopted as the hydrodynamic module of the Lisflood-FP model, which has served as a beacon for numerous models used to predict flood inundation for flood management and insurance assessment purposes worldwide. The proposed method is also rapidly being implemented into models developed by the flood risk assessment industry. The work directly improves the prediction skill of a multi-billion pound industry, benefiting tens of millions of people annually.
