Significance of output:

The enhanced understanding of the wear–corrosion interactions explored in the paper provided the sponsor, Schlumberger, with superior performance criteria for drill tool development for the oil and gas industry. Schlumberger needs such data to allow deeper, more difficult, reservoirs to be safely and more economically exploited around the world, but is often limited by the material performance and subsequent controllability of the drilling process.
