Significance of output:

The research used three-dimensional numerical modeling and field measurements of the groundwater control system for the HS1 Channel Tunnel Rail Link Thames Tunnel to demonstrate that certain important aspects of performance related to flow distribution and drawdown can only be explained by large scale inhomogeneities; and that these must be allowed for in the design of construction dewatering systems in chalk in general.
