Significance of output:

A key area in the prediction of high speed craft motions for design and certification is the re-entry into water after the craft becomes partially airborne. Two separate studies of special operations craft crew in the UK and US show that 65% suffer from injury resulting from craft motions. EU legislation requires all craft operators to comply with the whole-body vibration directive for employees. The experiments reported in this paper provide data of sufficient detail and quality for the validation of numerical models of water re-entry used in design, also providing greater insight to the physics of this process.
