Significance of output:

This paper looks afresh at a well known worldwide problem – dealing efficiently with right turning traffic at traffic signal controlled junctions where driving is on the left. Using novel microscopic simulation modelling, it is shown that the ‘hook turn’ – as used in Melbourne, Australia as part of their tram priority system – could be a widespread solution to this problem in appropriate traffic conditions.
