Significance of output:

Sodium borohydride offers promising possibilities for developing renewable, efficient, clean & safe energy. This investigation demonstrates the use of three-dimensional electrodes for direct borohydride fuel cells as a strategy for enhanced performance and minimised use of an expensive metal. The electrodes were manufactured by depositing gold thin films (< 100 nm) on porous, honeycomb structure, carbon electrodes providing better performance than two-dimensional electrodes. This paper supported the case of a collaboration project with Penn State University where a postgraduate research student, doing a PhD on direct borohydride fuel cells, will spend three months funded through the WUN Research Mobility Programme.
