The Use and Impact of Manufacturing Productivity Improvement Tools and Methodologies within the Automotive Component Industry
This research has highlighted a number of key issues which need to be addressed if real and sustainable benefits resulting from the application of continuous improvement tools and management methodologies are to be achieved. In essence the key contribution from this work is that a number of automotive suppliers are wasting valuable resource and missing key business opportunities in implementing a range of Continuous Improvement initiatives which are failing to deliver the impact expected. In addition, the research was undertaken with the cooperation and support of a global automotive OEM who provided unique access to their first tier supplier network and supplier performance data. The research was funded by the Regional Development Agency (ONE North- East) under the Engineering Fellows project.
