Additional information

This research work was supported by Andy Bloyce (Technical Manager - Motor Sport, OC Oerlikon Balzers AG, Nigel.Walker@ricardo.com) including test samples and technical information. The multilayer contact model developed using the advanced non-linear finite element method is being further investigated to help industrial design in multi-layer coated system applications. It has been applied to the design of the surface coated gears in Ricardo (Nigel Walker, principal engineer) and the gearbox performance has been achieved with low cost.
