Additional information

This work was part of the deliverables of the TSB funded iComposites Grand Challenge (Manager: Will Searle, will.serle@axillium.com). Findings that the European Union will not legislate for turbine blade (composite) disposal, means producers are exempt from disposal costs in the next 5-10 years. Policy findings in this case, dictate against environmental protection by delaying the need for environmental investment. A further finding with impact for Vestas (Frank Spee, FMSPE@vestas.com ) was that increasing the initial blade cost by using more expensive carbon fibre at the expense of cheap glass could actually increase the potential for recycling and resale if necessary.
