Additional information

Rod-like structures are used extensively in mechanical and civil applications, and the ability to perform nondestructive testing or evaluation on samples with such geometry is extremely valuable. The approach described in this paper explains the appearance of ultrasonic waveforms recorded using this technique and demonstrates a non-contact method for testing metal rods, which is very tolerant to misalignment, lending itself to automated applications.
