Additional information

Contributions were divided evenly between editors, generally the more difficult going to Dowden. Most notably, he translated Calame’s semiotics from French into readable English. And e.g. he worked closely with A. Livingstone and Haskamp on the design and execution of ch. 19; he rewrote the Levantine half of ch. 20, eliminating overlap with ch. 19, and improving contextualisation (p. 388, on Ugarit, is in fact by Dowden). He rewrote Ch. 2, requiring more on neoanalysis. Ch. 1 is 75% by Dowden (pp. 3-8.5, 15-21, parts of 12-15). Dowden wrote chs. 3 (Mythography), 15 (Soteriology), 26 (Initiation).
