This paper gives significant insight into the fundamental problem of deflected jets. For the first time comprehensive force measurements are presented, the influence of competing asymmetries is considered, and bifurcation onset criteria are devised and validated with a wide range of experimental measurements. This work was supported by a grant from the US Air Force Research Laboratory (FA 8655-10-1-3093).
