Additional information

This novel paper applies classical high cycle fatigue models to the transient cyclic compressive surface asperity loading in power transmission gearing which is a contributory factor in micro-pitting -a serious problem affecting wind turbine life and reliability. Its publication prompted special interest group meetings in Lyon and Porto organised by Ville and Sebra respectively. It was an important part of the case in support of EPSRC Grant EP/G06024X/1 £423k and has been cited by leading researchers in the field, notably Wang at Northwestern, Kharaman at Ohio State and Morales-Espejel at the SKF European Research Centre.
