Additional information

Laser transformation notching is shown to be an effective means of obtaining consistent fracture splitting of connecting rods. A direct consequence of this work was a patent: HARRIS S.J, MCCARTNEY D.G, PASHBY I.R, POWELL J, SHIPWAY P.H, VOISEY K.T.O and ZHANG D., 2008. Method of producing fracture in component e.g. connecting rod used for automotive engine, involves providing desired size of incident portion by applying laser beam so that remainder of component acts as heat sink WO2008129277.
