Double-weighted statement

This is the first detailed study of the political role of the aristocracy and the maintenance of the honours system during Charles I’s reign. It is based on nearly ten years of research going back to my major AHRC project on the Court of Chivalry. The book incorporates many of the project’s findings, but then builds on these with extensive work on archives relating to the English aristocracy and their activities, as well as detailed reconstruction of proceedings in the House of Lords and Council of Peers 1640-2.
