Additional information

The research reported here, also funded by Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept Scheme, is the first comprehensive study to assess the effects of previously unexplored experimental parameters on the outcome of microbial photocatalytic disinfection experiments. The results from this study emphasise the complex nature of photocatalytic studies using microorganisms as compared to those using chemical pollutants and add to the plethora of variables which are already known to affect experimental outcome of photocatalytic disinfection studies. This study reinforces the need for rigorous testing and careful interpretation of experimental results.
