Double-weighted statement

This volume will make available the unpublished and unedited letters by Sarah Scott, a prominent member of mid-eighteenth-century English literary society. The 396 letters are housed in various archives in the US and Britain and are with exceptions not available electronically. Therefore, the manual transcription and annotation of the letters took 11 years. The letters are edited diplomatically and have a comprehensive body of annotations relevant not only to the letters themselves but eighteenth-century society. The letters will be the foundation of future new research into eighteenth-century literary culture and social networks, in particular into Elizabeth Montagu and the Bluestockings.
