Laminar burning velocities of three C3H6O isomers at atmospheric pressure
While there exist chemical kinetic mechanisms for ethanol, there are scarce, if any, data for other oxygenates, especially aldehydes, one of the main pollutants associated with biofuels. This article presents a comprehensive study of the laminar flame speeds, major benchmarking criterion for chemical kinetics, for isomers representative of modern gasolines. These isomers have strikingly different flame speeds and for an explanation we initiated an international collaboration with Prof. A. Konnov, the world leading expert in detailed kinetics mechanisms. As a follow-up there is currently a joint research project sponsored by Siemens, both its UK (jonathan.may@siemens.com) and Swedish divisions (daniel.lorstad@siemens.com).
