Additional information

Seven spatial design grammar systems presented at a workshop on shape grammar implementation at Design Computing & Cognition 2010 (http://www2.mech-eng.leeds.ac.uk/users/men6am/DCC-10-SG-Implementation-Workshop-Agenda.htm) are evaluated against a comprehensive list of properties for computational design synthesis systems. The analysis covers a range of topics including mechanics of shape algebras for linear and nonlinear elements of up to two dimensions manipulated in two and three dimensional spaces; standard and parametric grammars including rule schemas; shape analysis and segmentation for fabrication and assembly; design evaluation; and user interfaces. The paper provides a roadmap for future developments of such systems and the authors include two international partners.
