Life cycle greenhouse gas assessment of a coal-fired power station with calcium looping CO2 capture and offshore geological storage
The key output from work optimising the life cycle GHG emissions of new CCS technologies. Presents a new engineering systems model of Calcium-Looping CCS plant, to produce the first published LCA of the technology. Identifies previously unrecognised potential for negative lifecycle GHG emissions, by exploring the importance of plant operating conditions and CaCO3 disposal mechanisms. The model is unique in the community and is fundamental to the system optimisation work of recent EPSRC award EP/J020745/1, developing novel solid sorbent technologies for natural gas CCS which will bring step performance and environmental improvements over amine based approaches.
