Based on prize winning paper at the Australasian Biomechanics Conference 2009 and built on previous international collaborations (with UBC, Canada (cripton@mech.ubc.ca)) culminating in the work of a Marie Curie Fellow (ESTER – 20599). Step change in modelling spinal cord trauma - first published account of a fluid-structure interaction model in which the cerebrospinal fluid was taken into consideration. Revealed that previous assumptions on the effect of trauma on the cord to be erroneous. Led to an invited book chapter (Neural Tissue Biomechanics 2011). Follow-on research currently being undertaken through two EPSRC funded DTC/CDT PhD students in collaboration with the Open University.
