Regional cartilage properties of three quadruped tibiofemoral joints used in musculoskeletal research studies
This study was with a clinical collaborator (Conaghan, Consultant Rheumatologist, Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust p.conaghan@leeds.ac.uk ) and undertaken in the Leeds Musculoskeletal Bioengineering Research Unit, a NIHR funded unit (http://lmbru.ac.uk/) supporting collaboration between the University and Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust. This study led to novel work demonstrating a link between the location of knee bone marrow lesions and areas of cartilage denudation in patients with knee osteoarthritis (presented at the British Orthopaedic Research Society, JBoneJointSurg Br 2012 94-B:suppXXXVI 19). These combined studies support the development of an in vitro whole joint model to use in translational research.
