The Nets of Modernism: Henry James, Virginia Woolf, James Joyce, and Sigmund Freud
Each of the chapters in The Nets of Modernism is based upon previously published material, but all such material has undergone full-scale revision and expansion with a view to creating a coherent monograph focusing on the theme of modernist networks.
The Nets of Modernism began life as a series of experimental talks and articles, all comprehensively rethought, developed and rewritten over several years, in order to produce a coherent whole. While focussing on Joyce, James, and Woolf, the book covers almost the entire range of Anglophone Modernism, together with psychoanalysis and the relatively recent and fast-developing field of animal studies.
