Double-weighting is requested for ‘Military Orientalism’ because of the breadth and depth of the work that produced it. Its inquiry spanned several disciplines, including strategic studies, history, anthropology and international relations, synthesising a range of literatures. It involved extensive archival research both in the UK and abroad. A range of seminars also contributed to the formation of the book’s argument. The volume of work and the variety of tasks involved – research, dialogue, travel, writing – was significant, and involved considerable time and effort.
