Following a three-month public consultation phase, the Environment Minister, Mr Richard Benyon, formally launched the Peatland Code into its 18-month-long pilot phase, on 10th September 2013. The Code provides the standards and robust science for business supporters to be reassured that their financial contribution will make a tangible, measurable and verifiable difference to the condition of UK peatlands. On this basis, negotiations are now being initiated on pilot schemes to be operated under the Code, although at this stage the details are necessarily confidential.
