Additional information

This article attempts to reconcile aspects of the theory of musical memetics developed in The Memetics of Music (Jan, 2007) with current thinking in the areas of neurobiology and cognitive psychology. Considering various dimensions of music (melody, harmony, deep structure), it presents an extended account of the application of William Calvin’s Hexagonal Cloning Theory to questions of music perception, cognition and memory. The consideration of the memory representation of music’s deep structure develops ideas from ‘Memesatz contra Ursatz’.
