A novel method of selecting solvents for polymer electrospinning
This paper describes a new method of mapping and experimentally assessing solvents for large-scale electrospinning of nano- and micro-scale biopolymeric fibres. Edirisinghe presented an invited paper on this at the 2011 US Materials Research Society. This work attracted Unilever who funded an EPSRC industrial-case studentship to further the work, commissioned Edirisinghe to review the related literature (published in impact factor 28 Chem. Soc. Reviews 41(2012)4708) and this paper was the key to Edirisinghe winning an EPSRC Enterprise Knowledge Transfer award (KTA/CTA No. 40461) to produce a new device for large-scale pressurised gyratory spinning of nanofibres as new materials for healthcare.
