Additional information

<28> The authors have developed a novel training system for orthopaedic fracture fixation, which aims to develop and assess the psychomotor skills of surgical trainees. It uses tracked surgical instruments and computer graphics to simulate several fixation procedures. The system builds on previous research at Hull in computer assisted surgical planning and guidance systems. The aim of this study was to validate the effectiveness of the system in a cohort of orthopaedic trainees. The results demonstrated statistically significant improvement in performance following training, which supports the argument that this system could have benefits if used routinely for orthopaedic surgical training.
