Additional information

This work is the first of its kind in investigating the performance of maritime safety regulations. “It is a paper addressing an important area” (Associate Editor, Safety Science). This work led to an award of a highly competitive Leverhulme Research Fellowship (RF/7/RFG/2010/0019, Wang, £42k, 2011-2013). The work has been well received by the international research community in marine engineering system design and operations. It has led to an invited collaboration in research of maritime safety regulations with Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Head of Department), funded by a Royal Society Kan Tong Po Visiting Professorship (Wang, £6k, 2011-2012).
