The preliminary part of this work was awarded a prestigious IMarEST Denny Medal received in 2008 (Chairman, IMarEST). It pioneered research in the area; “The work is particularly intriguing and a novel design with potential for application” (Editor-in-Chief, Risk Analysis, 2011). It has been widely referenced by other researchers and “among the top 5% most frequently cited papers published in this journal since 2008” (Managing Editor, Risk Analysis, November 2013). It has been used by Risktec Solutions Ltd in their consulting businesses relating to accident analysis (Managing Director, Risktec Solutions Ltd).
