Additional information

This work “presents a really well thought out model for the assessment of the reliability of seafarers’ performance” and “can be used to model the effects of a number of factors over extended time period” (Reviewer reports from Assistant Editor, em.jeme.0.272269.5e881c0f@editorialmanager.com). This work was supported by a joint EPSRC grant (EP/F024436, Wang & Jenkinson, £247k and EP/ F024606; Yang, Manchester University, £315k, 2008-2012) in collaboration with five industrial partners. The work was tested and used in a pilot study of improving seafarers’ reliability at Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) in 2012 (General Manager of Group 5, IRISL).
