This work was produced from a joint EPSRC project (GR/S85504, £113k, Wang & Jenkinson; GR/S85498, £114k, Yang, Manchester University, 2004-2007) with its final report rated "outstanding" in Communication of Research Output by the EPSRC. The preliminary part of this work was among the five best papers out of 110 (http://ieeexplore.ieee.org) in an IEEE International Conference on Automation Science and Engineering (CASE, Shanghai, China, October 8-10, 2006). It has been widely used by other researchers and “is among top 5% most frequently cited papers published in Journal of Safety Research since 2008” (Editor, Journal of Safety Research, October 2013).
