Additional information

This paper introduces a new approach to outdoor scene modelling based on the acquisition of high-dynamic range spherical image pairs. This has advantages over current approaches to scene modelling used in films, city mapping (LiDAR) or conventional images. Stereo reconstruction from spherical image pairs is accurate (comparable to LiDAR) and allows realistic rendering alongside high-dynamic colour images. This approach has been exploited by two major UK film post-production companies Framestore and DoubleNegative (www.dneg.com, Jeff Clifford –Head of Research jbc@dneg.com), and is being commercialised in TSB project SyMMM led by Filmlight (www.filmlight.ltd.uk).
