Electrospun fibro-porous polyurethane coatings for implantable glucose biosensors
This high impact factor journal publication is the first study evaluating the efficacy of electrospun membranes as mass-transport limiting membranes for implantable biosensors. Here we demonstrated a method to coat miniature ellipsoid sensors with electrospun membranes of desired properties and also that the inherently high pore volume of electrospun membranes ensures minimal effect on sensor sensitivity when used as sensor coatings. This NIH/NIBIB (R01EB001640) and Royal Society (RG100129 and JP1011064) funded research, in the short span of its publication, has been cited by papers reporting electrospun membranes for biomedical devices, drug delivery and new electrode materials.
