Ink-jet printing process for lyocell and cotton fibres. Part 2 : The relationship of colour strength and dye fixation to ink penetration
This is the first paper in a series on research, funded by Lenzing, on application of digital inkjet printing, an environmentally-responsible colour-delivery method, to lyocell (Tencel), which has strong environmental credentials regarding both manufacture and coloration. An investigation is described into fabric pre-treatment using full factorial statistical design, leading to critical comparisons of print quality on lyocell and cotton, and allowing development of optimum formulations from technical, economic and environmental perspectives. The research collaboration with Lenzing has been extended to a design-based PhD study, exploring approaches towards sustainable fashion that exploit concepts combining environmentally-responsible textile manufacture and coloration technology.
