Ernst Widmer Piano Concerto Op. 160. and Adolf Brunner’s Partita for Piano and Orchestra
This is an example of a digital release sharing new insights: as a reference recording of significant but little-known works, it helps to maintain and develop the scholarly infrastructure for piano performance. The researcher is the pianist in these world premiere recordings of the concertante music for piano of the largely forgotten Swiss composers Ernest Widmer (1927-1990) and Adolf Brunner (1901-1992).
This output, which was part funded by the government of the Swiss Canton of Aargau and several private Swiss foundations, extends the researcher’s earlier work on the music of Volkmar Andreae (see Pavri 1 and 2). In this release, Fali Pavri is the piano soloist on all tracks, performing with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and conductor Rainer Held; in the case of the Widmer Konzert für Klavier, Schlagzeug und Orchester Op. 160, the performance gains additional authority by virtue of being prepared from the composer’s manuscript.
These recordings are being made available on an ‘online-first’ basis from the Royal Conservatoire’s Broadcast media site; they will be published in CD form by Guild in spring 2014, extending Pavri’s longstanding relationship with this label.
For the purposes of this submission, the additional 'author' of this release is the conductor, Rainer Held.
