Additional information

Reported is a novel high redundancy actuation concept to fault tolerance for safety critical applications.

The method, inspired by human musculature resiliency, provides a single actuator comprising many co-operating actuation elements configured and controlled so individual element faults are inherently accommodated hence actuation performance degrades slowly rather than failing suddenly.

Timely from an industrial viewpoint due to the burgeoning interest in future high-integrity mechatronic applications.
