This paper described in detail a comprehensive finite element model that was developed to deal with web crippling behaviour for a wider range of structural member cross-sections. A parametric study was carried out so that a generalised design rule could be produced for possible adoption in design codes. All the finite element analysis results were benchmarked against test results and applicable design codes (from different countries). Collaboration with a major manufacturing company in the West of Scotland helped with the execution of this work.
