This guest-edited section of Isis represents an over-arching synthesis in which Morus had significant input. Contributors were selected to represent a chronological and thematic spectrum of approaches to the topic. They produced their contributions in consultation with Morus as editor. The section was designed to be a coherent and unitary body of work that highlighted the range and potential of current approaches to understanding scientific performances as well as setting the agenda for future research in the area. Morus also contributed the introduction and an article.
