In vivo measurement of plaque neovascularisation and thermal heterogeneity in intermediate lesions of human carotid arteries
Patented microwave radiometry(MR) by Siores was evaluated against established techniques. His PhD student performed the clinical trials using MR and collaborating medical colleagues carried out comparative studies using traditional techniques for plaque neovascularisation assessment. CEUS examination was associated with increased thermal heterogeneity by MR and ultrasound characteristics of plaque vulnerability in intermediate lesions. Proved valuable as an additional screening tool to identify high risk stroke patients. Low cost and operational friendliness led next phase of miniaturisation development prior to commercialisation, through an international consortium of companies from EU and PR China.
