Additional information

This paper describes advanced work on the interaction between global crack driving force and local retardation fields for fatigue cracks. The novel ideas and work described in this paper, and which underpin the biaxial model of crack tip stress intensity factors that is presented, are already being applied to characterisation of crack tip fields by other European researchers, e.g. Prof Diaz Garrido at Jaen University, Spain, in biaxial testing and Prof P Lazzarin, University of Padua, Italy in FE simulations.
